Serious two vehicle crash in Monaro

A motor vehicle crash in the state’s Monaro region has left a driver seriously injured and four others with minor injuries.

Just before 7am yesterday (Sunday 31 July 2022), emergency services responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash on Kosciuszko Road, Cootralantra, approximately 7km north of Berridale.

Police have been told a white Subaru Liberty was traveling north and a white Subaru Impreza was headed south when they collided, causing both vehicles to spin out.

The impact pushed the hatchback into a creek drain, coming to a stop 20m away.

Witnesses stopped to render assistance, before officers attached to Monaro Police District.

The driver of the sedan – a man aged 29 – was assessed at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for leg injuries, before being airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a serious but stable condition, where he remains.

The driver of the hatchback, a woman aged 28 – and her three passengers – were taken to Cooma Hospital with minor injuries.

With an influx of traffic on local roads during the snow season, police are reminding motorists of the Four Ds: drink, drug, dangerous and distracted driving.

Snowfield conditions can be more difficult to navigate so police are asking everyone to prioritise safety on their journey to and from alpine regions – pay close attention to the roads, don’t get distracted and slow down.
