Services Australia Podcast: Coronavirus conversations – family payments and balancing

The Coronavirus pandemic has affected all Australians and many families are getting used to a ‘new normal’.

With changes to working arrangements, job losses, and reduced hours or income, there’s a real possibility that families who get Family Tax Benefit (FTB) and Child Care Subsidy (CCS) need to let us know about their new normal, so they can get paid the right amount.

In this podcast, Services Australia General Manager Hank Jongen speaks with Justin Bott from the Financial Information Service about why families need to let us know about these changes, and how it may impact their payments.

Hank and Justin talk about what happens when Services Australia balances family payments after the end of the financial year. There are also reminders about what families need to think about when Child Care Subsidy restarts in July.

“It’s really important that families know what’s coming and what they need to do,” said Hank.

“We’ve started balancing FTB and we’ll start balancing CCS from August.

“Getting your income estimates up to date, confirming your income and lodging your tax returns can make a big difference in making sure you’re getting the right amount of support you’re entitled to.”

The podcast also discusses eligibility for the $750 Economic Support Payment for families who have chosen to get their FTB payments as a lump sum.
