Services available for essential travel over long weekend

Queensland Rail is reminding customers that although train services will be running over the Easter long weekend, they should only be travelling for essential reasons such as for work or medical appointments.

Chief Executive Officer Nick Easy said public holiday arrangements would be in place for those who do need to travel.

“Trains will run to a Sunday timetable across all lines on Good Friday (10 April), Easter Sunday (12 April) and Easter Monday (13 April), while a regular Saturday timetable will be in place on Easter Saturday (11 April),” Mr Easy said.

“NightLink services will not operate over the long weekend.”

Mr Easy said Queensland Rail was proud to provide an essential public transport service and would continue to closely monitor developments regarding COVID-19.

“The safety of our customers and our staff is our absolute priority,” he said.

“Queensland Rail has ramped up its cleaning activities for both stations and trains in response to COVID-19, with an enhanced focus on disinfecting hard touch points throughout the day.

“For their own safety and others around them, we want to remind customers who do need to travel for essential reasons to practice good hygiene and observe social distancing, where possible.”

However, Mr Easy encouraged customers to stay home this Easter if they did not have to travel.

“In Queensland we’ve made great progress in slowing the spread of the virus, but we don’t want to see that great work undone over the Easter break,” he said.

“From everyone at Queensland Rail, we hope that especially in these difficult times, our customers have a safe and enjoyable Easter at home.

“For those who do have to work over the long weekend, including health workers and many of our frontline staff at Queensland Rail, thank you for the important work you’re doing to keep essential services running and to help curb the spread of COVID-19.”

Customers who do need to travel are urged to plan their journey in advance at translink.com.au, download the MyTransLink app or call 13 12 30.
