A family has escaped, three with minor injuries, after their house exploded in Sydney’s Inner West this morning.
Emergency services were called to Fifth Street at Ashbury about 7.10am (Sunday 12 April 2020), and found the brick-and-tile split-level home partially collapsed.
Seven people were in the home at the time aged between eight and 73. Five were able to escape the collapsed structure themselves, but the two older people had to be carried out by police.
The father, aged 38, and two children, aged eight and 12, sustained minor burns. They are being treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and it’s expected they will be taken to hospital for further treatment.
The cause of the explosion has yet to be determined with fire fighters from Fire and Rescue NSW still in control of the site; they are being assisted by technicians from energy authorities.
An exclusion zone is in place as a precaution while emergency agencies manage the scene.
