Task Force Magnus detectives have charged an additional man over his alleged role in the fatal shooting of Alen Moradian last year – the seventh of the key players police will allege were involved.
About 8.30am on Tuesday 27 June 2023, emergency services were called to Spring Street in Bondi Junction, following reports a man had been shot while sitting in a stationary vehicle in an underground carpark.
The man – who died at the scene – has since been identified as 48-year-old Alen Moradian.
A short time later, police located a burnt-out Porsche nearby in Bondi Junction and a burnt-out Holden Cruze in Zetland.
Three crime scenes were subsequently established and forensically examined by specialist police.
Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command – with assistance from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad – commenced inquiries before the matter was taken carriage of by Task Force Magnus under Strike Force Parachuter.
Six men have been previously charged and remain before the courts.
Following extensive inquiries, about 11am today (Thursday 25 January 2024), strike force detectives attended Newcastle Police Station where they arrested a 21-year-old man and charged him with murder and participate in a criminal group.
He was remanded in custody, to appear before Newcastle Local Court today.
Homicide Squad Commander, Detective Acting Superintendent Virginia Gorman, said police have now arrested another of the key players involved in the murder of Alen Moradian.
“We will allege in court this man was the driver of the getaway car who drove the shooter to and from the crime scene and assisted in destroying each car as they fled.
“We will further allege – with this man now charged with his involvement – detectives have charged the key players involved in the killing of the Alen Moradian,” Det A/Supt Gorman said.
“This investigation should demonstrate to the people involved in these organised crime murders, that we will continue to investigate and pursue every participant from the organisers and facilitators to the trackers, drivers and shooters.”
