Sex Crimes Squad detectives have charged a man following an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a woman at a park in Sydney’s west last month.
About 11.15pm on Friday 18 September 2026, a 23-year-old woman was walking from Flemington Station through Airey Park in Homebush, when an unknown man stopped her.
Police were told the woman was restrained and dragged into nearby bushland, where the man allegedly sexually assaulted the woman.
The 23-year-old woman left the scene a short time later and reported the matter to police.
Officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command commenced a joint investigation with State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad under Strike Force Januzi.
Following extensive inquiries, about 8.50am yesterday (Thursday 1 October 2026) strike force detectives – with assistance from Southwest Metropolitan Operations Support Group – executed a search warrant in Padstow.
During the search, police seized several items for forensic examination.
A 27-year-old man was taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with aggravated sex assault-inflict actual bodily harm on victim, intentionally choke person without consent, take person intend commit serious indictable offence and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (personal).
He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Friday 2 October 2026).
