Two drivers under the influence have been caught at Moonta on Tuesday.
About 9.30pm on Tuesday 25 August, Yorke Mid North Highway Patrol deployed in a ghost fleet stopped a Holden sedan on the Moonta-Wallaroo Road at Moonta. The driver, a 32-year-old Moonta man, was submitted to a drug test which returned a positive result for methamphetamine. He was reported for drug driving and issued a three-month loss of licence pending forensic analysis.
Later on, just before midnight on Tuesday, police stopped a Ford station wagon for driver testing on Crutchett Road, North Moonta. The driver, a 71-year-old Moonta man, returned an alcohol reading of 0.141 – almost three times the legal limit. He was reported for drink driving and issued a six-month loss of licence.
Both men will be summonsed to attend the Kadina Magistrates Court at a later date.
SAPOL launched the new shadow fleet of low visibility, marked patrol vehicles in July to assist with detecting drivers committing offences including drink and drug driving, speeding, inattentive driving, and dangerous driving – behaviours that put road users at risk.
