Construction continues to progress across the Woodend to Riddells Creek Shared Trail, with works underway on several sections of the future 22-kilometre trail connecting Woodend, Macedon, New Gisborne and Riddells Creek.
The completed section of trail between Woodend township and Plants Lane remains open and available for community use. Between Plants Lane and Bawden Road (Stage 1Bii), construction is continuing and a key milestone has recently been achieved, with the VicTrack licence agreement for this section now executed, formalising access arrangements required to progress works. The Safe Access Permit process is also continuing through the required assessment and approval process. This section remains on track for completion in September 2026.
Construction is also progressing on the section south of Bawden Road (Stage 1Biii), with works anticipated to be completed in September 2026.
Around Macedon, resurfacing and drainage improvement works continue along Middle Gully Road to strengthen connections between sections of the trail. Construction is also progressing on the section between Bawden Road and Macedon township (Stage 2B), while works have commenced on Stage 2Bii near Macedon Station, including vegetation trimming and site preparation along the proposed trail alignment. Both sections are currently anticipated to be completed in September 2026.
Further south, construction remains underway on part of the Macedon to New Gisborne section of the trail (Stage 2C). A significant milestone has recently been achieved, with V/Line approving the first stage of designs for this section. Planning, design and approvals remain underway across the broader alignment to support delivery of the remaining section.
Planning and design work continues on the New Gisborne to Riddells Creek section of the trail (Stage 3). Recent survey works at the river crossing will help inform future functional planning and bridge design, while road safety audits for the Riddell Road and Kilmore Road crossings are currently being assessed by the Department of Transport and Planning. Council also continues to progress design work along Markham Road following the recent realignment of this section of the trail.
Council will continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses and thanks residents for their patience while works are underway.
