Sheffield Shield squad named for Queensland clash

Victoria has named an unchanged 13-player squad for its Marsh Sheffield Shield clash against Queensland, starting on Thursday at Allan Border Field.

The Victorians will be chasing their first win of the Sheffield Shield season, following three drawn matches to start their campaign.

Debutant Ashley Chandrasinghe starred with an unbeaten 119 in last week’s match against Tasmania, while captain Peter Handscomb continued his outstanding season with a knock of 95.

Handscomb leads the competition’s run charts with 518 runs at an average of 172.6, with teammate Marcus Harris (287 runs at 57.4) in second position.

“We’ve been pleased with the team’s performances across the first three Sheffield Shield matches, without being able to force a result,” Cricket Victoria’s Head of Male Cricket, David Hussey, said.

“The guys have played a consistent brand of cricket across those three games, with some strong individual contributions in each of them. Hopefully we can continue to do that and translate those team and individual performances into wins.

“Our senior players are leading from the front – none more so than the captain, Peter Handscomb, who is in terrific form with the bat. Our emerging players are also taking their opportunity when it comes, as highlighted by Ashley Chandrasinghe’s incredible debut innings.”
