Shepparton Community To Have Its Say On New Plan For Homes

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government and Greater Shepparton City Council are inviting the community to have its say on a new plan to build thousands of homes and create thousands of jobs.

The Victorian Planning Authority has prepared the draft Shepparton South East Precinct Structure Plan (PSP) which will provide much needed land for housing, community infrastructure and jobs and continue to strengthen Shepparton’s place as a centre for regional growth in Victoria over the next 20 years.

Engagement has kicked off in Shepparton to understand the community’s priorities for the precinct, with consultation closing on 15 March 2024.

The plan will provide for up to 2,500 homes to accommodate a population of more than 6,000 across the approximately 385 hectare area.

Shepparton South East is one of 21 priority projects identified to deliver more than 60,000 homes and 60,000 jobs across Victoria as part of the Allan Labor Government’s landmark Housing Statement.

These 21 projects will deliver a sustainable supply of land, and more jobs close to home, while we deliver more housing choice in all parts of Victoria.

As part of the Housing Statement, the Government announced a package of reforms to the planning system to clear the backlog of approvals and build more homes, faster.

As stated by Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny

“We know it’s hard to find affordable housing in regional Victoria which is why we’re pulling every lever at our disposal to build 152,000 homes over the next decade.

“We’ll work with the community and council to develop a shared plan to manage the future development of land in the Shepparton South East Precinct.”

As stated by Member for Northern Victoria Region Jaclyn Symes

“We’re calling on the community to have their say on the plan for the Shepparton South East Precinct, that will deliver more housing choice in Shepparton but create jobs in our region.”
