National Child Protection Week, from 6 to 12 September 2026, is driven by the theme: Every conversation matters: Shifting conversation to action. It’s a strong reminder that conversations can and must lead to meaningful change.
This annual event, run by NAPCAN, helps turn conversation into action by bringing people across Australia together to share ideas, strengthen communities and prevent harm before it occurs. The week of activities and webinars encourages us to take steps that help children feel heard, valued, safe and supported. It encourages conversations that shift ideas into actions and help build communities where every child experiences real safety, care and protection.
The Institute of Child Protection Studies has already contributed to the campaign’s webinar series. Deputy Director Professor Tim Moore has taken part in a conversation about funding that has been getting a lot of attention lately: Expenditure and outcomes in the child protection system: Let’s discuss the reality”. We have also proudly joined over 100 organisations who have pledged support for the 2026 National Child Protection Week. Our pledge reiterates our belief that children and young people flourish and do best when they live and grow in safe and thriving families and communities. Our research helps us in this quest.
