Shire libraries return to normal operating hours

Kempsey Shire Library and its branches will return to normal operating hours, including the return of Saturday services, from Monday 19 October.

After examining NSW public health orders and safety requirements, Kempsey Shire Council will extend operating hours across Kempsey, South West Rocks and Stuarts Point libraries.

Residents will be able to borrow and return items, use self-service on computers and the photocopier whilst maintaining social distancing.

Council’s Coordinator Library, Angie Meers, said that while the facility had been reopening in stages since May this was a significant change.

“Our libraries play an important role in social and recreation support for our community so it’s fantastic to provide even more normality in our lives,” she said.

“It also means that people in our community who may not have been able to utilise services under the previous hours, now can. This is particularly important for families and children accessing the library after school and on Saturdays.

“Our library staff will also still be available to assist residents with all their enquiries either face-to-face or over the phone.”

The new opening hours are:

  • Kempsey: 10am-5:30pm Monday to Friday and 9am-noon Saturday.
  • South West Rocks: 10am-5pm (closed 1-2pm) Tuesday to Thursday. 9am-noonSaturday.
  • Stuarts Point: 10am-5pm (closed 1-2pm) Tuesday and Thursday. 9am-noonSaturday.
  • The Hat Head Library branch remains closed until further notice.
