Shooting Australia releases its 2022 Endorsed Event Series calendar

Shooting Australia has today released its 2022 endorsed events calendar. The endorsed events will collectively be known as the 2022 Endorsed Event Series and will be held in conjunction with a club, state association or national member organisation. ISSF events across the pistol, rifle and shotgun disciplines will be included.

The 2022 Endorsed Event Series will provide a platform to encourage greater competitive participation throughout the ISSF disciplines while providing opportunities for Athletes to record a performance score towards their Average Performance Score. A number of events with the 2022 calendar have also been identified as events that will be used as part of the 2022 World Championships national team selection.

Any able-bodied athlete or para athlete who competes in an ISSF or WSPS discipline can compete in the 2022 Endorsed Event Series.

Shooting Australia’s High Performance Director Adam Sachs is appreciative of the community’s enthusiasm to host an endorsed event in 2022, “It has been amazing to see the number of event hosts that have expressed their eagerness to have their events endorsed by Shooting Australia in 2022. This has enabled us to endorse a wide range of events across the majority of states and territories within Australia. Domestic events form a really significant component in an athletes development and can mean differing things for each whether this be a training platform for National Team members or a pathway into ISSF competition from a non ISSF target shooting sport discipline.”

With the ISSF announcing some changes to competition formats effective 1 January, Sachs noted that “We will continue to work closely with the 2022 endorsed event hosts to determine the most appropriate competition formats. This might result in the new competition formats being adopted in their entirety, or alternatively parts thereof. What is going to be important is consistency in the event format and delivery; particularly within those events that will be used as part of the World Championships team selection process.”

Shooting Australia in conjunction with the event hosts, will provide opportunities for ISSF licensed officials to remain active in officiating at ISSF events and assist in their upskilling across any changes to the competition formats. “Our officials are an integral component of event delivery, and it is imperative as part of their development that they continue to have access to event opportunities and timely knowledge around any competition format changes” Sachs said.

At the conclusion of the 2022 Endorsed Event Series, Shooting Australia and the member organisations will each have the opportunity to nominate one athlete in each of the three disciplines who they regard as being the best and fairest throughout the domestic competition season.
