An after-hours visit ended in arrest for a burglar who unlawfully entered a west Auckland shopping centre overnight.
Security alarms were activated at the Great North Road property around 3.40am after an offender allegedly forced entry.
Senior Sergeant Jon Winthrop, Waitematā West Area Response Manager, says a man was allegedly seen on camera smashing through a door and walking into the centre.
“The suspect was allegedly observed entering a store and attempting to remove mobile phones.
“He then began smashing computer displays.”
A security guard located the offender and alerted Police, who quickly responded and arrested the man.
“A fast response from Police paired with an alert security guard helped prevent further offending within the complex.
“Retail crime is not a victimless offence, and we will continue to hold these offenders to account,” Senior Sergeant Wintrhrop says.
A 40-year-old man will appear in Waitākere District Court today, charged with burglary.
