A wide range of sustainable travel options will be on display at a street festival to be held in Braddon in November.

Canberrans will have a chance to see demonstrations from local retailers and advocacy groups showcasing sustainable, zero emission transport options that are available in the Territory.

“Today is World Car Free Day, and I’m pleased to mark the day by announcing that we will be holding a Sustainable Travel Street Party this November to celebrate zero emissions, active transport,” Minister Rattenbury said.

“Transport emissions make up around 60% of ACT greenhouse gas emissions, and reducing these is a key focus area as we work to meet our target of net zero emissions by 2045.

“The choices that each of us make every day collectively have a big impact on our city’s emissions.

“The car plays an important role for many of us in getting around our city, but the Street Party will be a great opportunity to check out other ways to get around that could just save you money while cutting emissions and improving your health.

“There’ll be plenty of food, entertainment, free activities for the kids, and giveaways throughout the day. You’ll have the chance to enjoy a pedestrian and cyclist friendly street, and check out some sustainable travel options including electric bikes and scooters,” Minister Rattenbury said.

A more detailed event program and street closure map will be released closer to the November event.
