Locals from all backgrounds are being invited to showcase their culture’s culinary delights at a Multicultural Food Festival to be held in September.

The aim is for the food festival to form part of a huge community party in Sturt Park on September 5 to mark the 140th anniversary of the discovery of the line of lode.

Council’s Community Development Coordinator, Rachel Merton, said an information session on the Multicultural Food Festival will be held in the Council Chambers at 5pm on August 9.

“The information session will be held for anyone with an interest in participating in this exciting event,” said Ms Merton.

“Our community is comprised of so many amazing cultures, and each culture’s cuisine is always a source of pride and something people like sharing with others.

“So if you’ve got a specialty family dish or a great recipe from ‘the old country’ you’d like to prepare and share with the community, be sure to come along information sessions to see how you can showcase your culture’s tradition.”

Along with the Food Festival, the 140th Anniversary Celebrations will feature a host of other entertainment including live music and a laser light display.

“We’re still getting things together but it’s shaping up to be a great night out for the family,” said Ms Merton.

“We’ve locked in South Australian trio Me ‘n Me Mates to perform on the night, and they’ll provide a celebration of Australian language and humour through song and story, performing a wide range of traditional and contemporary music.

“They play everything from bush and country music through to folk, and perform with guitar, banjo, stomp boxes, mouth organs, lager phone, washboard and even spoons, so it should be something see!

“We’ll release more details as the event draws closer, so stay tuned.”
