Significant Drug Seizure

Organised Crime Squad detectives have charged three people in relation to the seizure of 3kg of methylamphetamine in the Perth metropolitan area yesterday, Tuesday 25 August 2020.

About 3:30pm a black Infiniti Q50 was stopped in the Perth metropolitan area. The vehicle was searched and it will be alleged the 3.079kg of methylamphetamine was located concealed inside green tea packaging.

A 33-year-old man was arrested and a search warrant was subsequently executed at his residence, where further items of interest were located.

The seized drugs are worth approximately $1.2 million at wholesale level and approximately $3 million at the street level.

The investigation continued, resulting in Organised Crime Squad detectives arresting four further people in the Perth metropolitan area. During those arrests just under $100,000.00 cash was seized.

A 33-year-old man has been charged with:

– Possessed a trafficable quantity of methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply it to another (3.079kg);

– Possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property ($1,865.00 cash); and

– Possessed a prohibited drug (steroids)

He was refused bail and appeared in the Armadale Magistrates Court today, Wednesday 26 August 2020, and is next due to appear in the same court on Tuesday 1 September 2020.

A 32-year-old man from has been charged with:

– Sold or supplied, or offered to sell or supply, a trafficable quantity of methylamphetamine (3.079kg)

– Possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property ($20,000.00 cash); and

– No authority to drive (fines suspended)

He was refused bail and appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court today, Wednesday 26 August 2020, and is next due to appear in the same court on Thursday 3 September 2020.

A 40-year-old man has been charged with:

– Possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property ($78,098.85 cash)

– 2 x Unlawfully possessed a Controlled or Prescription drug

He was refused bail and appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court today, Wednesday 26 August 2020, and is next due to appear in the same court on Wednesday 9 September 2020.

A WA Police Force spokesperson said the size of the methylamphetamine seizure indicates a broader drug syndicate is likely to be involved.

“Our investigation into the origin of the 3kg of methylamphetamine is continuing.

“While yesterday’s arrests are significant, they are only the beginning of what will be an extensive investigation into the origin of the seized drugs, as well as their intended destination. There is clearly a broader network of criminal associates involved and we are committed to identifying who they are and bringing them to justice.”
