Simplifying government IT procurement

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Science and Technology

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is a strong supporter of our local IT sector and is committed to making it easier for Tasmanian businesses to tender for Government contracts.

As part of the Government’s broad efforts to simplify government procurement and in line with our Buy Local policy which targets 90 per cent of all Government contracts to be awarded to Tasmanian-based businesses by 2022, we are today inviting feedback from interested parties on the Technology Services Procurement Review.

The current version of the Government Information Technology Conditions (GITC) framework has not kept pace with the rapid pace of change and some suppliers have noted that current procurement processes for technology services are overly complex and difficult to transact.

The aim of the review is to ensure procurement processes for technology services reflect the principles of transparency, impartiality and effectiveness and are flexible so new technology services can be efficiently adopted by Government agencies.

The consultation period will remain open until 29 November 2019.
