Skills will be critical to reaching frontier

Business Council of Australia

Jobs and Skills Australia will help deliver the skills system Australia needs to be a frontier economy, Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott said.

“Workforce and skills shortages across every sector are putting the handbrake on our economy today, and we need to start planning for our future workforce to take advantage of big shifts like digitisation and decarbonisation.

“Jobs and Skills Australia will be key to our success. We welcome the agency’s focus on drawing on the expertise of industry, unions and governments to map out the workforce we’ll need in the future, and combining education and training with skilled migration to meet the challenge.

“This new agency will build on critical work of the National Skills Commission and its inaugural Commissioner Adam Boyton. The business community thanks Mr Boyton for his work over the last two years, leading the national conversation on Australia’s skills needs now and in the future.

“We look forward to working with the government to ensure Jobs and Skills Australia can help reset Australia’s skills system, boost productivity and create education and employment opportunities for all Australians.”
