Smashing concrete ceiling this International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day 2021. International Women’s Day is celebrated annually around the world and is designed to join voices from around the world and spread the message for equal rights. This year the theme is ‘Women in Leadership: Achieving an Equal Future in a COVID-19 World’.

To celebrate, we were lucky enough to sit down with Fiona McDonald, Executive Director of Tradeswomen Australia and talk all things women in trades, diversity targets, support and smashing the concrete ceiling.

“I want to say thanks to all the incredible women who stand out there everyday and showcase what they do and speak up,” Fiona said. “Especially those tradeswomen who are absolute amazing role models and encouraging so many other women to get into trades.”

Fiona McDonald’s career began as a light vehicle apprentice, during her apprenticeship and time working in the automotive industry she identified a lack of support, promotion and opportunities for women in trade industries.

During her apprenticeship, Fiona started a networking group for women in trades. Building relationships and establishing partnerships with business and industry, Fiona developed and implemented strategies to increase the participation of women in trades.
