Smoother ride for Forest Hill – Fernvale Road

The first stage of the Palaszczuk Government’s Forest Hill – Fernvale Road upgrade will get underway next week, when crews hit the ground running on new road surfacing at Lowood.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said as part of its commitment to delivering safer roads across the state, the Palasczuk Government was investing more than $3 million to resurface a critical part of Forest Hill – Fernvale Road between Reinbotts Road and Haslingden Park Drive.

“Forest Hill – Fernvale Road is an important local link for residents in Forest Hill, Coominya, Lowood and Fernvale, which is why we’re delivering new road surfacing and line marking,” Mr Bailey said.

“It’s a great example of state and local governments working together for the community, with Somerset Valley Regional Council staff to deliver the road widening works.”

Somerset Regional Council Mayor Graeme Lehmann said council was pleased to work with all levels of government to deliver projects that are of benefit to the community.

“The benefits are far-reaching. Council has the local knowledge and familiarity with the community and will deliver high-quality projects,” Cr Lehmann said.

“We also have the added benefit that our staff gain more knowledge about different projects particularly when working on larger road projects on behalf of the state government.”

Works are scheduled are expected to be complete mid-2019, weather permitting.

Mr Bailey said stage two would commence later this year, with the resurfacing of a 500-metre section of Forest Hill – Fernvale Road through Lowood between Church Street and Station Street.

Mr Bailey and Mayor Lehmann expressed their thanks to the community for their patience while works get underway.

Traffic controllers, reduced speed limits and road signs will be in place to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists. Motorists should observe all signs when approaching the roadworks and adapt their driving behaviour to the changed traffic conditions.
