Sod turned on new era for Wanneroo Districts Rugby Union Club

  • Work begins on Wanneroo Districts Rugby Union Club redevelopment
  • Supported by a $3 million investment from the Cook Labor Government, including $2 million as part of WA’s Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 Legacy Program
  • Part of PlayOn WA initiative to deliver 2,030 community sport and recreation infrastructure projects by 2030

Construction has officially begun on the redevelopment of Wanneroo Districts Rugby Union Club at Kingsway Reserve set to deliver modern, inclusive facilities for the growing northern suburbs club.

The project is backed by a $3 million Cook Labor Government investment, including $2 million through Western Australia’s Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 Legacy Program and a $1 million 2025 State Election commitment as part of a broader $29.9 million package to upgrade sporting facilities and support women and girls’ participation in sport across WA.

The investment will deliver upgraded infrastructure to support the club’s continued growth and long-term success.

Delivered in partnership with the City of Wanneroo, the redevelopment will deliver modern changerooms and enhanced club facilities that better cater for players, officials, volunteers and families, while supporting increasing participation in rugby union across the region.

Stage 1 of the project will include construction of four new changerooms, with work expected to be completed by June 2027.

Importantly, the investment will help the venue fulfil its role as one of only four Western Australian Outdoor Training Venues selected for the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027, showcasing the club and the northern suburbs rugby community on the world stage and creating a lasting legacy for local players and members.

Planning is also underway for Stage 2, which will focus on redeveloping the existing clubroom building after the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027, expanding its facilities for players, families and volunteers.

The upgraded facilities will drive the continued growth of local rugby, ensuring Wanneroo Districts Rugby Union Club can continue to meet the needs of its growing membership, particularly the increasing number of women and girls participating in the sport.

The redevelopment is part of the Cook Labor Government’s PlayOn WA initiative, which is delivering 2,030 sport and recreation infrastructure projects across Western Australia by 2030, helping more Western Australians stay active and connected to their communities.

As stated by Premier and Tourism, Trade and Investment Minister Roger Cook:
