A rooftop PV solar system was successfully installed on the Port Macquarie airport last week. In line with our Long Term Energy Strategy, the electrical and structural provisions for solar panels have been in place since the Airport Terminal Upgrade Project, completed in 2019.

This project was prioritised as a COVID-19 recovery initiative, and further supported by the Federal government, who provided funding for us to install the system under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

A week after installation and the system has been already been supplying approximately 80% of the terminal’s electricity usage, reducing costs and improving sustainability.

Our Long Term Energy Strategy provide guidance to enable us to continue to pursue and implement the most appropriate energy projects, with the aim for Council to source 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2027.

Funded by the Federal Government under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
