Solastalgia – an antidote is an exhibition created as a heart-felt response to the current environmental crisis, and is particularly poignant in the wake of the Cudlee Creek Bushfire.
Twelve Adelaide and regional artists explore transformative ways to mitigate the grief and disconnect associated with the passing of a once-familiar and trusted experience of ‘home’. It invokes and expresses many feelings of connection to land and to community.
Curated by artist Jo Wilmot, Solastalgia – an antidote was opened in the presence of around 350 guests on Saturday 15 February, and the exhibition is open to the public free of charge, Thursdays to Sundays, until 15 March 2020.
Amongst the mixed media exhibits is a charcoal piece by hills local Belinda Broughton drawn directly onto the former Woollen Mill’s wall using the remains of her home, which was lost in the Cudlee Creek Bushfire.
“The charcoal that blackened my home will become biochar and the earth will become more resilient for it,” said Belinda.
“Perhaps my inner being is also like that.”
Solastalgia is being held in Building 21 at Fabrik Arts + Heritage, 1 Lobethal Road Lobethal. It is part of the Adelaide Fringe program.
