South Australian Tourism Commission

South Australia will be showcased to more than 15.6 million TikTok users as creators from across the country land in Adelaide as part of an innovative tourism partnership with the fast-growing app.

In collaboration with the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC), the four-day ‘TikTok Creators Camp in South Australia’ will be the first of its kind in the state. It includes one-on-one workshops with TikTok plus a full itinerary of tours and experiences designed for content creation across the state.

Workshops hosted by TikTok at Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets enable creators to gain insights into the platform – learnings they will apply when they experience Adelaide and regional South Australia. The TikTok content creators will experience some of the best things to see, eat and do across the state, helping broadcast South Australia globally as a must-see destination.

This initiative aims to showcase South Australia on TikTok, which currently boasts over one billion monthly active users globally.

Prior to the pandemic, the 15-34 age group accounted for almost one third of total visitor expenditure in South Australia.

Promoting the diversity of offerings in the state, adventure seekers in the group will explore the Eyre Peninsula, while those wanting to ‘sip and relax’ will enjoy the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula.

TikTok creators arriving in South Australia includes Matthew Ng, Brooke Styles, Tatenda Muzondo, Maddy Macrae and Addison James. They have a combined following of more than 15.6 million followers globally and represent a diversity of content style and appeal to attract all types of travellers to the state.

Executive Director of Marketing at SATC, Erik de Roos, said the TikTok Creators Camp in South Australia is an excellent opportunity to showcase the state to millions of highly engaged potential visitors around the world.

“South Australia has an abundance of picturesque destinations, trendy venues, unique accommodation, and passionate operators – and I am sure the TikTok stars will love sharing them to their millions of followers.”

“Hosting TikTok’s best of the best will help put our state on the top of the to-do list for younger people across the world who we know are eager to travel.”

“The younger demographic is a key contributor to our visitor economy, with this age group making up one third of SA’s total visitor expenditure pre pandemic,” Mr de Roos said.

Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets General Manager, Thomas Zinn, said hosting the TikTok networking event is a fantastic opportunity to reach millions of potential guests.

“As a leading global brand in the boutique and lifestyle category, and the first Hotel Indigo in South Australia and Australasia, we know the importance of connecting with new and young audiences and sharing our unique neighbourhood story.”

“Such an opportunity to host Australia’s TikTok creators will provide us with the platform to connect and engage with their millions of dedicated followers to drive brand awareness and market our bespoke offerings. We look forward to welcoming the TikTok creators to experience South Australia and immerse themselves in the hotel’s rich history and locally inspired, modern, creative design,” Mr Zinn said.

A TikTok spokesperson added, “It is an incredible honour for TikTok to support the South Australian Tourism commission to showcase the state. South Australia is a beautiful part of our country, and we are proud to be able to help put it on the global map with the support of our fantastic creators”.
