Auxiliary Firefighters in the South Burnett Region celebrated the official opening of the newly built replacement Wooroolin Fire and Rescue Station today.
Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan said the new facility provided a boost for frontline firefighting services in the area.
“With the opening of this new state-of-the-art Fire and Rescue Station, local firefighters are able to deliver enhanced services to the Wooroolin community,” Mr Ryan said.
“The Wooroolin Fire and Rescue Station has been part of the local community for 65 years and will continue its proud tradition of supporting and protecting the local community.
“However, as the environment and emergency response changes, so too must our facilities.
“That’s why we invested $1.57 million into replacing the original station with a more spacious and modern facility that includes two appliance bays, equipment and breathing apparatus rooms, practical training area, and a ladder drill platform.”
The station services an area from Tingoora in the north, west to Durong, Memerambi to the south and east to Manumbar.
They respond to a range of incidents, including structural and grass fires, road crashes and other emergencies.
“Queensland’s auxiliary firefighters are always ready to help during times of disaster, so it’s wonderful to see them receive this new station,” Mr Ryan said.
“Wooroolin and the surrounding communities can be reassured that Queensland Fire and Emergency Services is well equipped to respond to any emergency situation.”
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Greg Leach said the new station would better enable firefighters to work hand-in-hand with the Wooroolin community to prevent and respond to disasters.
“Our firefighters have shown they are always ready to respond when disaster strikes, and this new facility will help them do this important work,” Mr Leach said.
“To be able to provide our hard-working service members with a new hub is fantastic for emergency response in the region.
“It’s a pleasure to see Wooroolin’s firefighters operate out of the station and make the most of the upgraded facilities.”
