Special program for 150th Bendigo Easter Fair

The 150th Bendigo Easter Fair will run for four days instead of three and will include a range of special activities to celebrate the milestone.

Because the Fair is running over four days from April 10 to April 13, there will be changes to some of the event times.

The Bendigo Advertiser Gala Parade will be held on Easter Monday at 12.30pm. The Awakening of the Dragon and the Fosterville Gold Torchlight Procession will be held on Easter Sunday. The normal fireworks display is planned to take place after the Fosterville Gold Torchlight Procession.

The Rotary Arts and Craft Market will be held on Hazeldene’s Good Friday and on Easter Monday.

To mark the 150th celebration, the Bendigo Easter Fair Society has arranged a series of special activities including a Teddy Bear’s Picnic, and ice-skating rink, two additional fireworks displays and a re-enactment of the Way of the Cross, which was a traditional part of the fair.

Mayor Cr Margaret O’Rourke said the fair was set to be a wonderful celebration of 150 years.

“We have all the crowd favourites, with the parades, the dragons and Chinese cultural celebrations, as well as carnival central which will be filled with rides and entertainment,” Cr O’Rourke said.

“The Bendigo Easter Fair is our biggest and most loved event, and we are so proud to be able to support the event in its 150th year.

“We expect crowds of approximately 100,000 and we are working closely with Victoria Police, event organisers, volunteers and businesses to ensure everything runs smoothly.

“The parades and other key events will be running at different times because of the longer event format, so I do encourage everyone who is planning to come along to check the website and make sure they know what is happening when.”
