To celebrate Children’s Book Week we had a special dress-up storytime inspired by our favourite book characters.
Children’s and Youth Librarian Mel dressed as a Superb Lyrebird from the Eve Pownall award winning title ‘Peculiar parents’ by Stephanie Owen Reeder and Ingrid Bartowiak. The kids embraced all things Lyrebird as we read an excerpt from ‘Peculiar parents’ and ‘Where the Lyrebird lives’ by Vikki Conley and Max Hamilton. We also enjoyed a viewing of an amazing Lyrebird in action, thanks to our good friend Sir David Attenborough. The kids were simply amazed at the amount of different sounds one bird can make. We also enjoyed reading ‘The Frog’s first song’ by Jazz Money and Jason Phu, another award-nominated book from 2026.
We then got stuck into creating our own beautiful lyrebird artworks using found items like leaves, bark and sticks to make their remarkable tails. All the kids also took home a free book to add to their home libraries.
