Police conducted Operation Safe Speed last week with 428 speeding offences detected.
Operation Safe Speed ran from 12.01am on Monday 13 July to 11.59pm on Sunday 19 July with the focus on enforcing speed limits and reducing road trauma across South Australia.
During the operation, there were no lives lost but six serious injuries reported.
There were 319 drivers fined, arrested or reported with three drivers were detected travelling at an excessive speed along with one driver who returned a positive breath test of 0.105.
Superintendent Shane Johnson, officer in charge of Traffic Services Branch says, “For Operation Safe Speed police targeted drivers travelling at excessive speeds. This year speed has been a contributing factor in 14% of lives lost on SA roads. The results of the Operation show that some drivers continue to ignore speed limits and put themselves and other road users at risk by driving dangerously at excessive speeds.
Police urge all road users to be conscious of and stick to the speed limits, drive to the conditions and be safe on the roads.
It is better to arrive at your destination late, than not arrive at all.”
Along with detecting speeding drivers, police also conducted alcotests and drug tests with 35 positive breath test results and 83 drivers testing positive to illegal drugs.
