Speeding P Plate driver nabbed – Eastern Freeway

Police have nabbed a speeding driver on the Eastern Freeway in Kew this morning.

Officers detected a black Mercedes Benz travelling at 134km/h in a 100km/h zone on the freeway about 7.05am.

As police were attempting to catch the vehicle, they detected it travelling in excess of 180km/h.

Police intercepted the vehicle and discovered the P1 P Plate driver was breaching his peer passenger restrictions by having two male passengers in his vehicle.

The 20-year-old driver returned a positive preliminary oral fluid test for methamphetamine.

The driver was not displaying P plates and was not carrying his licence.

The Doncaster man had his vehicle immediately impounded for 30 days under the hoon legislation.

He is expected to be charged on summons with various traffic related offences.
