13 February 2021

The Territory Labor Government’s paediatric vaccine rollout will achieve a critical milestone with 50% of kids aged 5-11 on track to have received their first dose tomorrow.

In addition, Territory Government has now administered more than 500,000 COVID-19 doses in a sign Territorians have overwhelmingly rolled up their sleeves to protect themselves, their loved ones and community.

This comes as the third week of school starts on Monday and marks just over one month since paediatric vaccines started rolling out on January 10.

Currently more than 12,100 paediatric vaccines have been administered in the Territory, representing 49% of the population aged 5-11.

Second doses will begin to rollout next month with children, aged 5-11, recommended to receive another dose eight weeks apart.

Almost 90 per cent of kids aged 12-15 have now received their first dose and 75 per cent have received two doses.

More than 75,000 booster doses have now been administered in the Northern Territory, accounting for 39% of the eligible population.

Quotes from Health Minister Natasha Fyles:

“Our youngest Territorians have been setting an excellent example for the rest of the country to follow by rolling up their sleeves to protect themselves and their community.

“Eligibility for the paediatric vaccine only opened one month ago – so to achieve a 50% first dose rate so quickly is an outstanding result.”
