Lake Macquarie City Council will host one of the largest regional livesites for Saturday’s FIFA Women’s World Cup bronze medal match between the Matildas and Sweden.

Mayor Kay Fraser confirmed Speers Point Park would be the venue for the livesite, with a 6m x 3.5m screen set up outside the Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima.

Streaming will start from 5pm for the pre-game telecast.The match kicks off at 6pm, broadcast live from Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.

“There has been an incredible and well-deserved groundswell of support for the Matildas throughout the World Cup,” Cr Fraser said.

“It has been amazing to see people of all ages and from all walks of life embracing the team, and we’re excited to provide an outdoor venue for locals to come together and watch the Aussies’ final match of the tournament.”

Families are encouraged to bring their own chairs and rugs, and picnic food. Food trucks will also operate onsite.

Cr Fraser said MAP mima would be lit up in green and gold for the event.
