Spoken word poets head for Logan

Internationally renowned poet Anisa Nandaula will be the Master of Ceremonies and a guest performer at this year’s Logan heat of the Australian Poetry Slam 2019.

A war of words will be held in the City of Logan this month as part of the Australian Poetry Slam 2019.

The Logan heat of the Slam is at Limelight Café at the Logan Entertainment Centre (LEC) in Logan Central on Friday, August 16, from 6pm to 8pm.

Logan City Council Libraries and the Queensland Poetry Festival, in partnership with the State Library of Queensland, are presenting the heat.

Two wordsmiths will be chosen to represent the City of Logan at the Queensland State Final on Sunday, August 25 at the Queensland Poetry Festival.

Anisa Nandaula, the winner of the 2016 Logan heat, will be this year’s Master of Ceremonies and a guest performer.

The internationally renowned poet was the Queensland Poetry Slam champion and runner-up Australian Poetry Slam champion in 2016.

Last year, Anisa received the Arts Queensland XYZ Award for Innovation in Spoken Word.

She also facilitates Voices of Colour which is a local platform for artists to share their words.

Anyone wanting to be a Slam contestant must register by 5.30pm on the day.

Only the first 20 competitors to sign up can compete.

Contestants have two minutes to present their original spoken word poetry.

A pre-event workshop, at which Anisa will share her Slam tips and tricks, will be held at Logan Central Library on August 16 from 3pm to 5pm.
