Sportsground Lights On For Dogs During Winter

It’s that time of year again when we turn on the lights for dogs (and their owners) to exercise on sportsgrounds more safely at night during the winter months.

The winter lighting program will run between Monday 15 June and Friday 28 August 2026. Lights on for Dogs is a continued action of the Domestic Animal Management Plan 2022-26 and aims to provide Baysider’s with dedicated access to 3 popular dog off-leash sportsgrounds one evening a week while the grounds are not being used for sport.

The lights will be on at:

  • Hurlingham Park (oval 2), Brighton East on Mondays, 5pm – 8pm
  • RG Chisholm Reserve, Sandringham on Fridays, 5pm – 8pm*
  • RJ Sillitoe Reserve, Hampton on Fridays, 5pm – 8pm (enter via Lawson Street)

*We anticipate junior sport will be scheduled at Chisholm Reserve on some Friday evenings throughout winter. Dogs will not be permitted during these community sport sessions. Timing information will be kept current on the project page.

It’s important to be responsible and respectful when exercising dogs on sportsgrounds by helping to maintain the turf and surface integrity for all users.

  • Stop your dog from digging – holes on sportsgrounds are dangerous and can cause injury for both people and pets. If your dog digs, please ensure you fill the hole immediately.
  • Always scoop the poop and bin it.
  • Maintain effective control.
  • Never let your dog run at or jump on others.
  • Put your dog back on leash if you need to.
  • Ask permission before approaching people or dogs.

Winter dog restrictions began on 1 April, with more off-leash access for our four-legged friends on the beach and foreshore areas until late October. To find other local spots to exercise your dog view our interactive walking your dog in Bayside map 🐶
