Spring into Gardening

18 September 2019

Be inspired with Spring into Gardening, Stonnington’s gardening and sustainability festival, at Victoria Gardens on Sunday 13 October.

This year’s Logie winner for Most Popular Presenter, Costa Georgiadis from ABC’s Gardening Australia, returns to host Spring into Gardening this October.

The enthusiastic garden expert said he couldn’t wait to host the festival. “I love Spring into Gardening because it’s the perfect opportunity to get motivated to be in the garden in the season ahead. You can get your gardening questions answered and meet local specialists with loads of ideas and information,” said Costa.

City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Stefanopoulos, said the popular festival showcases Stonnington’s commitment to sustainability within our community.

“We host these events to explore the concept of living sustainably and display how our community can work towards a resilient future,” said Mayor Stefanopoulos.

“I encourage you to join us in the beautiful surrounds of Victoria Gardens and attend free workshops, see expert demonstrations, shop the market stalls and get the kids involved in hands-on activities – all designed to help you start planting and preparing your garden for summer,” added Mayor Stefanopoulos.

This year, MasterChef series 7 contestant Sara Oteri, will present ‘Changing the world from your kitchen: steps to reduce food waste and save money’. Passionate about reducing food waste, Sara will go through some tips that help decrease food waste in the kitchen.

Organic Gardener contributor and author Penny Woodward will share her knowledge on ‘Growing heirloom tomatoes’, on the main stage and ‘Harvesting and curing garlic’ in a stall-based presentation.

There will be an abundance of stall demonstrations to spark inspiration including backyard beekeeping with Backyard Honey, worm farming with the Wormlovers and many more.

There is also plenty of fun activities for kids such as flower crown-making with The Sage Garden, a native bee hotel workshop with Emma Grace Sustainable Crafts, Stonnington Toy Library and the ever popular Bike n’ Blend.

Live music, roving entertainment, and eco-friendly food trucks will round out the day.

A full program will be available on Council’s website.
