The Carroll Labor Government is delivering the brand-new St Leonards Pier and has now appointed a contractor to deliver the construction of this community-loved project.
Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne today announced Simpsons Construction has been appointed as the lead contractor to deliver the new Pier.
Construction on the new St Leonards Pier will begin in early 2027 and be delivered by the end of the year.
This will mean the current Pier will remain open over the peak summer period for all to enjoy, including Sirens Kiosk, before major construction starts.
Works include the construction of wheelchair accessible fishing locations, curved seating that overlooks bay views and a low landing with stairs providing easy access to the water.
Once completed, the new pier will provide a modern, safe and accessible pier for locals and visitors, while supporting a range of recreational activities including walking, recreational fishing, boating, diving and snorkelling.
Demolition of the existing pier and construction of the new pier will occur concurrently where possible, helping accelerate delivery of the project and minimising construction time.
Simpsons Construction has built two of Victoria’s most celebrated, and award-winning piers. Altona Pier, winner of the Civic Landscape category at the 2024 National Landscape Architecture Awards, and St Kilda Pier, which most recently, claimed the top honour – the Victorian Architecture Medal – at the 2026 Australian Institute of Architects’ Victorian Awards.
The Carroll-Labor is investing more than $46 million in critical pier and jetty rebuilds and repairs, with the state’s local ports contributing more than $900 million a year to local and regional economies.
