St Leonards Skate Park upgrade project successfully completed

The construction works to enhance the St Leonards Skate Park have reached successful completion. Mayor Trent Sullivan, Bellarine Ward Councillors Elise Wilkinson and Jim Mason, and Member for Bellarine Alison Marchant MP joined local representatives in celebrating this significant milestone on Friday 15 December 2023.

Key features of the completed St Leonards Skate Park upgrade include:

  • new skate area featuring a mini-ramp, quarter pipes, flat banks, rails, and a manual pad
  • plaza and park features
  • new shelter and seating areas
  • ENE Hub smart pole
  • drinking fountain and
  • multi-sport court.

The community has been actively supporting the skate park upgrade, with special acknowledgment given to Ethan Coleman, a Bellarine Secondary College student, who spearheaded an 800-signature petition presented to the Council.

The project’s first stage, finalised in February 2023, involved the demolition of the existing skate park and the installation of two basketball/futsal goals and two netball rings.

The concept design for stage two was developed collaboratively with the local community, including skateboard enthusiasts.

The $670,000 upgrade became a reality through a $310,000 investment from the City of Greater Geelong and $360,000 from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.

Alison Marchant MP – Member for Bellarine;

This is a great outcome for the town of St Leonards and will give the community another active space to gather, have fun and enjoy the outdoors.

Mayor Sullivan

Local young people have desired this project for a long time, and their efforts have been commendable.

This upgraded skate park will provide more recreational options for the growing population in St Leonards and surrounding areas.

Councillor Jim Mason – Bellarine Ward

Investing in the St Leonards Skate Park upgrade encourages and supports the holistic well-being of the youth in the area, promoting a healthier and more fulfilling life.

The completed St Leonards Skate Park stands as a testament to the positive outcomes achievable through collaborative community efforts and investment in recreational infrastructure.
