Staff numbers to improve government service delivery in Darlinghurst and Redfern

Darlinghurst and Redfern Service Centres will benefit from additional resources when staff and services from Sydney myGov relocate to these locations from Monday 9 December 2019.

Department of Human Services General Manager Hank Jongen said the move was part of the department’s commitment to continual improvement.

‘The closure of Sydney myGov and relocation of resources shows we are adapting to how people prefer to interact with the government,’ Mr Jongen said.

‘More people are choosing to access our services online on their own devices.

‘This change will have a positive impact on the Darlinghurst and Redfern Service Centres as they will benefit from additional staff numbers and improved face-to-face service delivery during peak periods.’

For more than 10 years the department has been establishing one-stop shops across the country to help customers complete more of their government business in a coordinated service from one convenient location.

‘While the newer service centres offer greater convenience, people are also increasingly choosing the option of making a Medicare claim through myGov or by using the Medicare app at a time and place that suits them,’ Mr Jongen said.

‘This is about ensuring we keep pace with the changing needs of the community.

‘Those who require more personalised or intensive support will have continued access to face-to-face Centrelink and Medicare services at the Darlinghurst Service Centre, coupled with full Centrelink services at the Redfern Service Centre.’

People can visit the Darlinghurst and Redfern Service Centres Monday to Friday, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

The Australian Taxation Office services currently offered at Sydney myGov will continue to be provided at both the Parramatta and Rockdale DHS Service Centres.
