The State Government has announced a State of Disaster from 6pm today 2 August, for six weeks until 13 September.
This gives police additional powers to make sure people are complying with public health directions
Also introduced from today (2 August) a curfew will be in place from 8pm until 5am every day for six weeks (until 13 September). The only reason to be outside your home during the curfew is if you are getting care, giving care or going to and from work if required to do so.
Stage 4 restrictions have also been announced from tonight.
These restrictions introduced a 5km boundary around your home that you cannot go outside.
Shopping: Under these restrictions, only one person from one household once a day can go shopping for essential items within the 5km radius.
Exercise: Exercise will be limited to a maximum of one hour per day and no more than five kilometres from your home. Group size will be limited to a maximum of two – you and one other person – whether you live with them or not.
Schools: From Wednesday, 5 August all students will return to flexible and remote learning including year 11 and 12 students. Students who are currently attending onsite – including senior students and those in our specialist schools – will go to school on Monday, have a pupil free day on Tuesday, and be learning at home from Wednesday.
Onsite supervision will be offered but tightened – only available for students who really need it. That means children whose parents are permitted workers and vulnerable kids who can’t learn from home.
From Thursday, those same rules will apply to Melbourne’s kinder and early childhood education services. Only those children whose parents are permitted works or children who are vulnerable will be allowed to attend kindergarten and early childhood services.
University or TAFE: Study at TAFE and uni must be done remotely
Public Transport: The Night Network will be suspended, and public transport services will be reduced during curfew hours.
Partners: There will be exemptions for people regarding the 5km radius lockdown for people whose partners live outside the 5km.
Face coverings will continue to be compulsory.
Workplace changes: The government will be providing further announcements tomorrow regarding workplaces and how the Stage 4 restrictions will impact tomorrow.
