Stage two of Parklands Boulevard Upgrade set to begin

Parklands Boulevard in Meridan Plains will soon undergo a significant transformation to help alleviate congestion and cater to future growth.

With stage one of the project now complete, which involved earthworks and major service relocations, stage two road widening works will commence mid-September.

Sunshine Coast Council Division 3 Councillor Peter Cox said the upgrade was expected to be delivered by late-2020, providing the community with a much improved traffic experience.

“Stage two of the Parklands Boulevard Upgrade will see the road widened to four lanes (two lanes of traffic in each direction) and realigned from the IRT Parklands Retirement Village to approximately 100 metres west of Meridan Way,” Cr Cox said.

“Other improvements will see dedicated cycle lanes, signalised pedestrian crossing points at the Sunset Drive and Meridan Way intersections, pedestrian shared pathways and street lighting and landscaping.

“While council will do everything possible to minimise disruption to the community, this is a major road construction project and some temporary changes to traffic conditions will be required to ensure the safety of all road users, pedestrians and workers.

“I would like to thank local residents, Meridan State College and local businesses for their patience during construction and their ongoing support of this vital project.”

During works there will be temporary changed traffic conditions, which include 40 kilometre per hour speed restrictions.

Meridan State College school drop-off and pick-up will still be available in the dedicated school carpark areas and school bus and Sunbus services will continue to operate as usual.
