Expressions of Interest are now open to be a stallholder at the inaugural Early Childhood Careers Expo, a brand-new event by Baw Baw Shire Council to generate interest in careers in the early years sector.

The expo will be held at the West Gippsland Arts Centre on Thursday 30 May and any local businesses or organisations that deliver early childhood careers, training or pathways are encouraged to apply to be a stallholder, free of charge.

The Early Childhood Careers Expo will provide the ideal opportunity for anyone who has ever contemplated a career in early years to find out more about this career path and determine if it is right for them. Becoming a stallholder also gives local businesses and community groups a chance to spread their word and hopefully gain some new recruits!

A career in early years services could be as a maternal and child health nurse, family day care educator, childcare educator, or a kindergarten teacher.

Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Annemarie McCabe said she is excited for Council to bring this new event to town and showcase the variety of careers available in early years.

“The early years sector looks after our youngest and some of our most vulnerable residents, and it’s important that with all of the new families moving to the area and the infrastructure popping up, that we have the right people caring for our young ones,” Cr McCabe said.

“Perfect for secondary school students, someone considering a new career opportunity, or someone looking for flexible work right from their own home, the early years sector has so much variety and flexibility, while also being a rewarding career.

“We are bringing this new event to Baw Baw to shine a light on the opportunities available to our residents, while also boosting a sector that is really crying out for some more staff and leaders.”

Expressions of Interest to be a stallholder will close on Monday 4 March.

This exciting new event will not only showcase the careers available in early years, but there will also be a pop-up playgroup on the day, as well as lessons in cover letter and resume writing.
