The Perth Cultural Centre (PCC) will undergo a $35 million redevelopment and rejuvenation, with the McGowan Government’s 2022-23 State Budget allocating $15 million of additional funding to expand the Perth City Deal project.
The additional funding brings the State Government’s contribution to $25 million and will deliver an expanded redevelopment of the precinct, as outlined in the PCC Masterplan.
The Commonwealth Government is contributing $10 million as part of the $1.7 billion Perth City Deal.
The project will see the PCC transformed into a connected, thriving and welcoming precinct that connects the major cultural institutions in the area.
It includes the development of a new broad and shady central space to provide the precinct with a new focal point.
The works will also include the demolition of the amphitheatre and development of a more accessible, graded streetscape.
At the eastern end of the PCC, an Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) car park will be demolished to introduce better connections to Beaufort Street and create a new children’s play place.
The project will deliver enhanced lighting and security, open up under-utilised spaces, and create a better environment for families and tourists visiting the area.
The works will deliver much of the vision outlined in the PCC Masterplan, which was released today after a lengthy consultation process and detailed consideration by the Cultural Precinct Taskforce.

“Over the past five years, we have delivered the magnificent new WA Museum Boola Bardip and the AGWA rooftop. This project will help marry the PCC’s cultural institutions in a way that combines safety, ambience and fun.
“By sensibly managing the State Budget, the McGowan Government has been able to invest in job-creating projects like this to set WA up for the future.”
