- Amendments to City of Perth’s local planning scheme to provide boost for infill housing supply

Planning Minister John Carey has today, on the advice of the Western Australia Planning Commission (WAPC), approved changes to the City of Perth’s local planning scheme to enable a significant housing boost across three strategic infill development sites.
The three lots total more than 5,600 square metres at the West Perth location on Troode Street and is a key precinct identified for housing and commercial intensification. This decision has unlocked the prospect of a significant residential development in a transit-oriented development precinct.
The approved changes will increase the plot ratio limits over these lots for new housing and commercial development to facilitate increased density for residential and larger-scale commercial development in West Perth.
As stated by Planning Minister John Carey:
“Infill development, particularly in Perth, is vital in delivering a more vibrant and connected city by making best use of existing infrastructure and supporting greater housing supply and diversity.
“What the City of Perth first proposed for this strategic site would have been a missed opportunity to revitalise the West Perth precinct and to enable more housing to be delivered in our inner city.
“It’s acknowledged there must be shared a responsibility across all levels of government to deliver more housing at this critical time, and this is an example of a local government not taking the opportunity to enable more housing in a key, strategic infill area.
“Our Government is doing everything we can to bolster the supply of housing throughout WA including through our record $3.2 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures and our nation-leading planning reforms that cuts unnecessary red tape and streamlines planning processes.”
