Kingston Council has submitted four key projects for Victorian Government funding under the current round of the Community Local Sports Infrastructure Fund 2022.
The projects include the construction of female-friendly changerooms at Walter Galt Reserve in Mordialloc; the installation of new sports lighting on the second oval at Walter Galt Reserve and the Bonbeach St Chads Baseball Club’s Diamond 1; and the upgrade of the Peter Scullin Reserve Playspace also in Mordialloc.
Mayor Steve Staikos said Council is committed to improving facilities across the city, as shown by the record capital investment in the 2022-23 budget, and any assistance from the Victorian Government would be greatly appreciated.
“All of these projects strongly align with the eligibility criteria and will collectively address current barriers to participation, improve accessibility, increase participation rates, provide much needed support to our local sporting clubs, and assist in the promotion of healthy active lifestyles for the community,” Cr Staikos said.
“We have successful partnered with the State Government on a multitude of projects and programs, and we look forward to working together to see these through to fruition as well.”
The projects
Walter Galt Reserve Pavilion Upgrade ($2.3 million project – $775,000 funding request)
To provide additional changeroom facilities (pavilion extension) and retrofit and update the existing changerooms. Both sets of changerooms will meet regulatory and sporting standard requirements, including universal access, Female Friendly and Disability requirements.
Walter Galt Reserve Lighting ($280,000 project – $125,000 funding request)
The installation of sports lighting on the second playing field at Walter Galt Reserve to increase training and game capacity during the winter junior football season for the 650 members of the junior football club.
Bonbeach St Chads Baseball Club Lighting ($500,000 project – $125,000 funding request)
The installation of new lighting on Diamond 1 to meet Baseball Australia standards.
Peter Scullin Reserve Playspace Upgrade ($1.8 million project – $300,000 funding request)
Upgrading the regional playspace at Peter Scullin Reserve to be accessible and include water play, swings, coastal/nautical theme elements and interactive play features.
