Queensland remains on course to become a recognised hub for global superyachts, buoyed by the Palaszczuk Government’s Superyacht Industry Development Fund.
Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said Round 2 grants through the fund would help local businesses secure a bigger share of the global superyacht market.
“Queensland is ready to be recognised as the key superyacht hub of the Asia-Pacific, and we want to help local businesses benefit from this boom,” Mr Dick said.
“Round 2 of our Superyacht Industry Development Fund is now open, so we’re calling on Queensland marine operators to tap into up to $19,000 in matched funding to help with business certifications, tradeshow participation and client attraction.
“When it comes to superyachts, Queensland has it all: location, infrastructure, workforce and industry capabilities.
“Our government is invested in growing this important industry because it will mean more jobs for Queensland, particularly those in regional parts of our state.”
The Superyacht Industry Development Fund is part of the Queensland Superyacht Strategy 2018-23, which sets out the state’s plan to increase global industry market share by 10 per cent.
The Palaszczuk Government’s Superyacht Strategy Champion, Member for Cairns Michael Healy, said recent amendments to federal legislation showed the strategy was working.
“Through the Special Recreational Vessels Bill, foreign-owned superyachts will now be available for charter in Australian waters,” Mr Healy said.
“The changes to this bill were advocated for in our superyacht strategy, and having it pass with bipartisan support gives great confidence to the industry.
“This will attract more superyachts to Queensland, and it will lengthen their stay when they get here.
“It’s a great outcome for Queensland and our many leading marine businesses right along the supply chain.”
The Palaszczuk Government is also partnering with leading superyacht peak bodies to help local industry connect with the international superyacht market.
“In 2020 Superyacht Australia and Super Yacht Group Great Barrier Reef will lead a delegation of Queensland businesses to Superyacht Rendezvous in Tahiti and Fiji, the Monaco Yacht Show, and the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show,” Mr Healy said.
“Additionally, Super Yacht Group Great Barrier Reef will host an international delegation to showcase our world-famous coastline and the superyacht services we can provide.”
