State-of-the-art pavilion coming to Diggers Rest

Diggers Rest residents will have a state-of-the-art space for community, sport and social activities in the near future, with funding for a new multipurpose community pavilion announced.

The Victorian Government has announced $2.5 million from its Growing Suburbs Fund to fast-track plans for a flagship pavilion at Diggers Rest Recreation Reserve. The funding adds Melton City Council’s $5.8 million contribution.

City of Melton Mayor Cr Lara Carli said the facility would make an important difference to the local community.

“This pavilion will be the central activity hub for the whole Diggers Rest community. It will give residents greater opportunities to connect with each other, stay active, and participate in hobby groups, school groups and more,” Cr Carli said.

“A modern, multipurpose pavilion will make a meaningful difference to the people who call Diggers Rest home and we’re grateful that the state government has partnered with us on this outstanding project.

“In addition, the pavilion will serve a fast-growing population in Diggers Rest which is set to increase 35 per cent by 2026.

“Importantly, its construction will also generate much-needed jobs.”

The new pavilion will be centrally located at the reserve and will replace the three existing and aged buildings which are no longer fit for purpose.

It will include contemporary and spacious community meeting and activity spaces, kitchens, meeting rooms, equitable change rooms and associated amenities that will service a range of sport, recreation and community groups.

Construction is set to begin early next year and be complete by early 2022.
