Statement – Al-Taqwa College

Al-Taqwa College

At 2.30 this afternoon, the College was advised by the Western Public Health Unit (WPHU) of the Department of Health and Human Services that a staff member has tested positive for Covid-19.

The staff member advised us around the same time.

On the direction of the WPHU and the Department of Health, we have immediately advised staff, students and families they must be Covid tested immediately, and take the following steps:

• All staff and students must get tested for COVID-19. The Department

expanded testing capacity this afternoon and this evening. Further expanded

testing capacity will be available tomorrow.

• All staff and students must immediately self-quarantine until further notice.

• All staff and students must continue to quarantine after getting tested even if

they test negative.

• Staff and students will be contacted by Western Public Health Unit or the

Department of Health to inform them of quarantine requirements.

Tomorrow (Thursday) will be a student-free day to enable staff to be tested. Online classes will resume on Friday 6 August until further notice.

For the time being, the College campus will be completely shut down with no staff members or students permitted to attend the College premises. Deep cleaning is being arranged.

Unless and until the Department advises us otherwise, we are locking down the College campus for the full 14 day precautionary period, therefore online classes will continue until Wednesday 18 August. Classes will resume face to face on Thursday 19 August.

The College assures our families, staff and the Victorian community that we have done everything required by the Victorian government to implement Covid-19 protocols and precautions, as we have throughout this pandemic.
