Statement concerning allegations of Covid vaccination payments

NLC

Below is a statement from the NLC concerning allegations made over the weekend that the NLC had made payments for people getting COVID-19 vaccinations. Those statements were false and had no basis in fact.

“Over the weekend statements were made alleging that the Northern Land Council had made payments of money to people for receiving COVID-19 vaccinations,” an NLC spokesperson said.

“Those statements have no basis in fact.

“At no time has the NLC made payments to anyone to encourage or reward them for receiving a vaccination.

“All actions taken by the NLC in relation to the safety and welfare of its members, staff, constituents and the general public in relation to COVID-19 have at all times been guided by the Chief Health Officer Directions.

“We have also sought advice and assistance from the Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance of the NT (AMSANT), the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress (CAAC), and the NT and Commonwealth Departments of Health.

“Vaccination against COVID-19 and following public health advice are the best ways that all Aboriginal Territorians, their families and their communities can stay safe.”
