Statement from ARFFS Aerodrome Head Chief Fire Officer Rob Purcell on the death of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services First Class fire…

On behalf of Airservices Australia’s Aviation Rescue Fire Fighting Service (ARFFS), I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of Izzy, who passed away overnight following yesterday’s Slacks Creek factory fire.

Izzy’s death is a tragic reminder of the dangers of our profession and the critical role we play in protecting lives and property for community and industry. As a fire fighting community, we are devastated by her loss.

Everyone who does our job should come home safely at the end of their shift and that is why the ARFFS and all other fire fighting services are uncompromising on safety.

As a mark of respect, Airservices will fly its flags at half-mast until Izzy is laid to rest.
