Queensland is a diverse state and we come from many different backgrounds.
Our multiculturalism is one of our greatest strengths and we are very proud it.
The death of Vyleen White at Redbank Plains was both tragic and senseless, and we know the community is hurting.
Our thoughts continue to be with Ms White’s family and her loved ones at this time of deep sadness.
Police have charged several young people in relation to this crime, and we must now let the criminal justice system do its job.
We should never forget that individuals are responsible for crimes – not the wider communities.
Our Government joins with community leaders from across Queensland offering our continued support and assistance.
And yet, in the aftermath of Ms White’s death, we are hearing of appalling incidents of racism and vilification towards a section of our community – physically, online and through flyers in post boxes.
As a government, we condemn these actions and they will not be tolerated.
They have no place in a diverse and multicultural Queensland.
Our government encourages every Queenslander to stand together during this time.
Supporting one another has and will continue to get us through our toughest times.
